When to refer your patient:

  • Sleeping and/or eating poorly, loss of energy and motivation
  • Experiencing unreal thoughts, visions, smells or sounds
  • Suspicious of people and can’t be reassured
  • Forgetful, fearful and needing lots of reassurance
  • Anxious, complaints that can’t be solved, focuses on certain things
  • Talking about wanting to die
  • Having difficulty with medications
  • Difficult to redirect or is assaultive to family, staff or peers
